Casino Games Where You Decide the House Edge - Baccarat
If you could decide the House edge in all casino games, you would probably want it to be zero or less. Of course, this cannot happen. The House needs to make sure they have an edge or the casino would not survive.
With that said, you can decide to risk your money at a lower edge than others. You can also do this at almost any casino game.
Bets in Baccarat
The edge in baccarat comes from the fact that the banker gets to decide what to do after he sees what the player's final total is, giving him more of a chance to draw a winning hand. For this reason, the banker is a slight favorite.
However, in baccarat, players have the option to bet on the banker's hand. This would give those players an advantage, but the House rule is that the player must pay a five percent commission on any winning banker bets. In addition, a tie pays 8-to-1.
The House Edge in Baccarat
Since the odds of a tie are longer than 9-to-1, this tempting looking bet is really one that gives the House a 14.36 percent edge. Betting on the player gives the House a 1.24 percent edge. The banker is favored to win, but with the five percent commission, a banker bet gives the House a 1.06 percent edge.
Deciding the House Edge in Baccarat
To decide the House edge in baccarat, you simply have to decide to bet on the banker every time. You are essentially getting a choice in every baccarat hand -- would you like a 1.24 percent House edge or a 1.06 percent House edge?
The answer is obvious. A 1.06 percent edge is more favorable to the player, so that is what you should choose. Bet on the banker every time for the best chance to win.
This holds true no matter how many times in a row the banker or the player has won before the current hand. The banker will always have a slightly better chance of winning.
